About the Photo Tours & Workshops
Our photo tours and workshops are the result of a combination of a passion for photography, travelling and Melbourne’s delight in passing on his knowledge to eager photographers, no matter what their skill level is. The tours are the logical extension of the Part 1 Getting The Best From Your Digital Camera 1 day seminar, and Part 2 “Hands-On” Practical 1 day workshop held monthly in Jakarta.
With the knowledge and experience garnered from these 2 courses you are ideally qualified to attend the photo tours and workshops.However, if you have some familiarity with your camera you will have no problem in learning more about how to use your camera. More importantly you will learn more about approach, composition, learning to “see” light and working with people and honing your skills in “street” photography..
There are a variety of photo tours and workshops available and we are adding to them regularly heeding comments and suggestions we have received from our participants.
Some are half-day walking tours in and around Jakarta. Others span a weekend, 3 days or more to other Indonesian destinations and beyond. We keep our group sizes small to allow one-on-one tuition and guidance from Melbourne and also to allow better interaction between participants and the local people that we will be photographing. Also, with a small group you won’t be bumping into each other and getting in the way of other photographers. Invariably we find that the members tend to form friendships with each other due to the small group size.
We run our trips as cost effectively as possible so that they will appeal to a broad range of interested photographers. All tours are to places we have visited and surveyed and we know where to be (and not to be) at various times during the day. One of the keys to the success of these tours and workshops is that Melbourne gives mini-workshops and offers tips and tricks before we reach our next destination. We also have informal daily reviews of our photographs during lunch or dinner when practical.
Melbourne is proud to have helped hundreds of new and not-so-new photographers and has witnessed rapid growth in their approach to composition, style, appreciation of light and creative camera techniques.
