Belitung Island 3-Day Photo Tour & WorkshopIn October 2009 we ran the last Belitung Island photo tour and workshop for 2009. Our participants had a great time and we experienced just about every weather condition you can imagine in this part of the world.Belitung Island is a very picturesque island just a 45 minute flight from Jakarta. We photographed beautiful rock formations, sweeping beach scenes and even sheltered from a rain shower in a lighthouse, which affords superb views of the surrounding islands. Our visit to the local fishing village rewarded us with fun photographs of the friendly locals and gave us opportunities to think quickly and apply our "street photography" techniques.Another trip was to a fish market and we were able to capture the vendors with an amazing variety of fish freshly caught from the crystal clear waters that surround Belitung island. The tour and workshop is our most popular offering. Every photographer should visit Belitung Island at least once.photos here....................................For info on our next Belitung Island Photo Tour & Workshop click hereTo see photographs taken from the tours click here
Mount Bromo Volcano 2-Day Photo Tour & WorkshopMount Bromo is one of Indonesia"s most famous and distinctive landmarks and our group of 8 photographers certainly made the most of the 2 days of great weather we enjoyed back in September 2009. We were able to shoot panoramas, HDR and long-exposure night shots for some really creative results. We had the good fortune to be able to work with some local Tengger "cowboys" and maximized the potential in impromptu photo sessions working with interesting lighting conditions. The very fact that you can walk in the crater of a volcano makes this tour worth it as a life experience!photos here.......................................For info o our next Mount Bromo Photo Tour & Workshop click hereTo see photographs taken from the tours click here
Jogja and Borobudur 2-Day Photo Tour & WorkshopThis exciting weekend outing has been fully researched and surveyed and we were ready to launch it in 2009, but just didn"t have the time available. For sure we will be leading a trip in late March/ early April 2010. Stay tuned! The tour takes us into some lesser-visited areas of Jogja, out into the surrounding villages and also to the magnificent Buddhist temple Borobudur. A perfect mix of people photography, architecture and landscape shooting.photos here.......................................For info on our next Jogja and Borobudur 2-Day Photo Tour & Workshop click hereTo see photographs taken there click here
Kampung in Jakarta Morning Photo Walk 8.30 am - 2.30 pm andJakarta Chinatown Morning Photo Walk 8.30am - 2.30pmA number of groups accompanied us on these walks. They are a great way to learn camera skills quickly, because we are in real-life situations and have to make decisions about exposure, metering, ISO, white balance, focusing, focal length choice etc, all in milli-seconds. Don"t worry that"s why Melbourne is there. By coaching and making suggestions about camera settings and composition you can be sure you will get some great shots of local vendors, bustling street scenes, narrow alleyways, abstracts and even a temple! These morning walks are usually run on weekends, but we can organize to run them on a weekday if you can get a group of 6 minimum. For info on our next Kampung in Jakarta walk click hereTo see photographs taken on the Kampung walk click hereFor info on our next Jakarta Chinatown walk click hereTo see photographs taken on the Jakarta Chinatown walk click here

"Papua Flower" Cook Book written by Petty ElliottBack in November 2009 a collection of Melbourne"s food photography was published in Petty"s new book, Papua Flower which is an amazing book overflowing with beautiful recipes of Indonesian cuisine mostly from the Manado region. Petty has a flair for taking basic ingredients and then producing tasty and memorable dishes that have "zing".In all, it took us over 18 months to capture all of the recipes here in Jakarta and we also spent a week in the Manado area taking photographs of local color, the people, ingredients, local dishes and surroundings. We are all overjoyed with the final result. The photos are mouth-watering, the printing is excellent and Petty goes to great lengths to share her depth of knowledge about Manado and the recipes from the region. If you attend one of our photography seminars, maybe Melbourne will share a few secrets on how he captured some of the images:-)photos here...................................................................................To get a sneak preview of Papua Flower click hereTo purchase the book please contact us or Petty Elliot at........................................
CORPORATE AND CAMERA CLUB IN-HOUSE TRAININGMelbourne"s photography training was sought out by 2 corporations who have in-house camera clubs. He was able to "tailor-fit" the content based on the specific needs of the groups. This is becoming a popular request, not only for camera clubs but also for training the staff of Public Relations and Corporate Affairs departments who need to shoot for their company newsletters. INDONESIAN HERITAGE SOCIETY PRESENTATIONMelbourne accepted the invitation to give a presentation of some of the images he has captured during his 6 years in Indonesia. The audience was comprised mainly of under 30"s that gallantly fought the macet to attend the presentation at the IHS library. There were many interesting questions asked by the audience. Many were curious as to how Melbourne deals with the "Halo Meester" greeting throughout Indonesia. IHS is attracting the under 30"s age group with the view of taking advantage of their skill sets and vision and asking them to take a major role in the running of the organization. If you want more info on becoming a member at IHS please visitinfo@heritagejkt.org or visit www.heritagejkt.orgINDONESIAN HERITAGE SOCIETY ART & PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONMelbourne thoroughly enjoyed being teamed up with Ken Pattern and Rifky Effendy as a juror in the IHS Art and Photography Exhibition March 7th to 17th 2009. Rozi Turnbull, exhibition director and her team worked tirelessly against all odds to create a world-class exhibition with almost 300 initial entries. The jurors had a difficult time choosing a "final cut" of 113 artworks and photographs. The winners and finalists surely had some very creative pieces. We hope the IHS has a successful repeat event in 2010.
COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL PHOTOGRAPHY SERVICESWe are commercial, industrial and travel photographers, based in Jakarta carrying out assignments throughout south-east Asia. Please visit our photography-related website www.phototoursindonesia.com to see a portfolio of our work. Our assignment work during the latter part of 2009 took us to oil rigs, coal and nickel mines and we were able to explore some areas of Indonesia that only a few fortunate folks are lucky enough to see. We love hanging out of helicopters shooting for our industrial clients. Problem is, it"s always a bad hair day afterwards! For these shoots we are usually ready to shoot pre-sunrise and work through the day until after sunset. It"s hard work and requires a lot of stamina, but the results are worth it. We are acknowledged to be amongst the top industrial shooters in south-east Asia. We have a strong portfolio and we know how to shoot quickly with portable lighting and create colorful, dynamic and interesting story-telling photographs. For testimonials from corporate clients click hereWe carried out hotel and resort photography and also completed the photography for the company profile of the Jakarta Convention Centre. For examples of our photography of JCC please visit www.jakartaconferencecentre.comPhotographing at schools can be stressful at times (:-)) but we had a delightful experience shooting for 3 days at Sekolah Global Jaya and produced many photographs that they will be using in their company profile and website.Earlier in the year we spent a few days in the Tuban area of Java and made some interesting and emotional photos of the local cultural activities. Some of these photographs were used to illustrate an article in the Jakarta Globe written by Melanie Wood.We continue to enjoy shooting CSR related photography and consider ourselves fortunate that we are able to work on a number of these assignments. Another very pleasant shoot was for a relocations company who recently moved into their new premises on the outskirts of Jakarta. It was a delight to shoot in an environment where you could still smell the new carpet! What"s in store for us next?In this business you never know. It"s got to be the craziest field to be working in if you relish having a rigid schedule to follow. Still, it"s better than having a job!
